“The inspiration for this new, single story glass pavilion was a picnic on the beach under a large sun-shade. The folding glass walls can be cleared away to allow unobstructed views combined with a cool on shore breeze.

Flush thresholds let the interior flow uninterrupted through the heart of the house, and the casually minimal design eliminates much of the clutter of daily living. Materials are natural and draw on the palette of muted colors on the pebble beach.

The remainder of the scheme takes up a courtyard form with three bedrooms enclosing a carefully proportioned walled garden.” James Wells Architects 

“Built on a shingle beach, the house is 40 meters from the sea. With one large living, dining and kitchen room, guests can enjoy panoramic views with all the comforts of modern living. Located in a magical, peaceful hideaway, the beach house is tucked away from traffic but conveniently close to Chichester with its culture, restaurants, cafés and shopping. 

The house comfortably sleeps six, arranged as one double with toplit en-suite shower room, one generously proportioned twin and a second twin comprising a purpose built bunk above a single bed below. In addition, there is also an extra sofa bed for two in a small lounge space off the main living room. The shared family bathroom has shower, bath and WC.

The main room is a sun-filled quadruple aspect flowing space comprising sitting room, dining room and beautifully fitted, stone clad kitchen. The dining table sits eight, while the dining space spills out onto sheltered decking terraces to both garden and beach sides. A suspended open log fire is a central feature, offering a welcoming focus on a dark, wet, winter evening. 

The kitchen is equipped for twelve covers, with twin electric oven and five-ring hob with a wok burner – perfect for great entertaining over a short stay.

Built to a high end specification in 2002 the house has under floor heating throughout and high pressure hot water.
